2 Timothy 2:4 we see that “no one serving as a soldier gets
involved in civilian affairs – he wants to please his commanding officer.” As
we seek God with all of our heart and die to our own agendas, He will begin to
guide us to where we need to invest our lives. Having a spouse is a beautiful
part of life once we are directed to it by our “commanding officer”. Until then our duty is to chase wholeheartedly after God as only a single person can.
With a focus on ourselves we will always yearn for something other than Christ. With
a focus on God we will be turned loose to find our joy, our purpose, and our
future in Him. “Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you;
your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.” (Is.26:8 NIV) “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is
steadfast, because he trusts in you.”(Is.26:3)
By God’s grace may our hearts be captivated by a love for
God. As Abraham laid Isaac on the altar,
may we be willing to lay our deepest longings before God trusting that He is
faithful to meet our every need. As we offer this living sacrifice to Christ
may we be found holy and pleasing to God. In our singleness may this sacrifice
be an expression of our spiritual act of worship. (Romans 12:1-2)
